The statement "sticks and stones may break my bone but words will never hurt me," is a very ignorant thing to say. Words actually hurt more than physical abuse. If one individual hits another individual it will sting for a few seconds but if someone says something that is hurtful to you, that statement might stick with you for the rest of your life. Words can cause problems in relationships whether it is parent to child, spouse to spouse, or friend to friend relationships.
