I actually don't like reading the magazine online because it hurts my eyes. I hate sitting in front of a computer and reading longer pieces. If it was a shorter piece it wouldn't really bother me. It's just much easier to have something on a solid piece of paper right in front of me. A piece of paper that I can mark up, underline, highlight and take notes on. You can't do that when you are reading whatever it is online.

(response to web reading of "White Angel")

I would really rather have the actually paper in front of me because being online or even on any screen hurts my eyes and the letters get all jumbled up and I end up skipping lines by accident.
It also makes it harder to read because you have to constantly move it around, like in the New Yorker it's in columns so it just gets annoying to pull up to the next column and everything, which is not necessary to do when you're actually holding the paper.
Holding the paper makes the story come alive and now with it just slapped up on the internet it doesn't seem as personal and it almost makes me not want to read it.
and I also can't get cozy and read it, which can get a person more involved in the story cuz you're nothing thinking about how your eyes hurt or how your butt hurts or how you would really like a blanket but it would just be uncomfortable that way.

Response to Web Reading: I don't really mind reading online, I actually do it all the time. The only problem is I like to feel the book in my hands. I like to flip pages, smell the book (as weird as that sounds)and be able to put it on the shelf when I'm done with it. With the web pages I don't feel a connection to the text, I feel at almost an arms length away and it bothers me at time but if I really want to read a book and I don't have time to go to a book store a computer is very useful because everything is there and free. But I enjoy the print in my hands better. I feel safe and able to "travel" into the novel.

Ill rather pefer a handout because it's uncomfortable and it hurts my eyes. Also because with a handout if I need to go back to it ill know where its at and online i have to remember the website. Another reason because with a handout is more hands-on and online is more hands-off.
